The term Questing Beast (or Beast Glatisant) primarily refers to a chimeric monster from Arthurian legend.

Arthurian Legend
In medieval folklore, the Questing Beast is an elusive monster that serves as a symbol of chaos, incest, and the eventual downfall of Arthur's kingdom.
- Physical Appearance: The most famous description—found in Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur—depicts it with the head and neck of a serpent, the body of a leopard, the haunches of a lion, and the feet of a hart (deer).
- The Sound: Its name comes from the noise in its belly, which sounds like "thirty couple hounds questing" (barking as if on a hunt).
- The Hunt: It is famously pursued by King Pellinore and his family, and later by the Saracen knight Sir Palamedes, who eventually slays it.
- Origins: Scholars believe the beast may have been a medieval interpretation of a giraffe, based on third-hand descriptions from travellers.
Modern Media
- Tabletop Gaming: Questing Beast is a major YouTube channel and blog run by Ben Milton, focusing on reviews of "Old School Renaissance" (OSR) and indie role-playing games.
- Magic: The Gathering: A powerful legendary creature card featured in the Throne of Eldraine set, known for having a high number of complex abilities.
- Television: The beast appears in the BBC series Merlin (Season 1 finale) as an omen of death whose bite is nearly fatal to Prince Arthur.
- Literature: It appears as a more comic, pining character in T.H. White's The Once and Future King.
