Ellyllon | Twilight Faeries of Welsh Lore
Share
The Ellyllon (singular: Ellyll) are small, goblin-like elves from Welsh folklore known for their unpredictable, sometimes tricky, nature. They are considered a specific type of the Tylwyth Teg, or the "fair family" of Welsh legend.

Characteristics and Lore
- Appearance: They are described as small, delicate, luminous, and ethereal beings, sometimes called "light-elves".
- Habitat: The Ellyllon primarily reside in natural settings like woodlands, misty hollows, secluded valleys, and the hollows of ancient trees.
- Behaviour: Their nature is ambiguous; they can be mischievous and confuse travellers with riddles and illusions, but can also be helpful. There are tales where they bring prosperity to human households, provided certain conditions are met, such as keeping a candle lit and the house clean at night.
- Diet: According to folklore, their diet consists of toadstools and a strange fungus called "fairy butter" found in limestone crevices and on rotted tree roots.
- Regent: They are said to be ruled by a queen named Queen Mab.
- Attire: A charming detail from the lore is that they are known for wearing gloves made from the bells of the foxglove flower (Digitalis), whose leaves are known for their potent sedative properties in traditional medicine.
